“If I were really asked to define myself, I wouldn’t start with race; I wouldn’t start with blackness; I wouldn’t start with gender; I wouldn’t start with feminism. I would start with stripping down to what fundamentally informs my life, which is that I’m a seeker on the path. I think of feminism, and I think of anti-racist struggles as part of it. But where I stand spiritually is, steadfastly, on a path about love.”

About Me

Losing my father to cancer during my early years in college was deeply painful. Though it fueled my passion for understanding the mind-body connection, it taught me a lot more about the impact of the loss of human connection. Healing myself through my grief taught me the value of embracing the pain and suffering of life, and the search for a deeper meaning. It was hard work but ultimately rewarding. It helped me nurture an increased capacity to choose and live a more balanced, internally rich life with deeper connections with myself and others. I heard this very same sentiment consistently in the grief groups I have facilitated on and off over the past two decades.

Pursuing a doctorate in Counseling Psychology was a time full of growth, excitement, and challenge. My most empowering and illuminating experience in grad school was when I learned what it truly meant to be me as a woman of color in this society through my Feminist Therapy training. That combined with my clinical experience with diverse populations and my own life experience, strengthened my passion for social justice. Working with men of all colors in grief also significantly contributed to my understanding of how patriarchy and all forms of oppression hurts us all.

"The enemy is not men. The enemy is the concept of patriarchy.
The concept of patriarchy as the way to run the world or do things."
Toni Morrison

My bearing witness to the pain inflicted by patriarchy is a constant driving force for me, giving me the strength,
and compassion in my work. But more importantly, the remarkable  resilience, depth, growth and healing that I witness in those who take the risks to explore the uncharted territory is the most inspiring part of the sacred time we
spend together.

My work style is strongly informed by feminist-multicultural-social justice, interpersonal/psychodynamic/attachment, affect/emotion-focused -EFT, Internal Family System (IFS), and self-psychology frameworks, with the highest priority in understanding and empowering you, and helping you transcend past/present wounds and trauma towards a holistic wellness. I also integrate evidence-based practice (e.g., mindfulness, polyvagal theory, interpersonal neurobiology, DBT or CBT) as appropriate.
I believe in authentic relating and see you as the expert of your life experience while we work together to help you gain clarity and give you what you need in life. I strive to provide safety first and foremost while respecting your process and vulnerabilities in navigating difficult places.

Having said all the above, no words will do justice to what might transpire in the sacred space that you and I will share in our work together. The here and now, the depth and nuances of our human connection is what I hope to bring with me while honoring your pain, individual pace, growth and healing. I would be honored to work with you as you embark on this most important journey of healing and self discovery.
